Do you need a diamond engagement ring? No!
Are we supposed to give a diamond for an engagement?
Says who? Who says you need to give a diamond to show your love?
The answer to that:
In 1948, The American
advertising agency N.W. Ayer & Sonan started a campaign for
the De Beers company to make people think they had to give a diamond to show
their love. They intended “to create a
situation where almost every person pledging marriage feels compelled to
acquire a diamond engagement ring.” It is considered one of the most successful advertising
campaigns of the century.
Those that know a little Ayurveda or Vedic astrology, know that nothing is good for everyone. A diamond might not be the best stone for you, your spouse, or your marriage.
Aren't diamonds connected to Venus? Yes. That’s
like saying, antibiotics kill germs. They do, but you don’t take them all the
time. You take them if and when you need them.
So either find out the best stone for you or your spouse before you buy an overpriced diamond. Or get a
truly rare or beautiful stone that is probably going to be much more valuable
and much cheaper than that diamond.
Diamonds as an Investment
Are diamonds a good investment? Only a diamond seller will
tell you it is. Since the price of the diamond is manipulated by a monopoly,
they are over-priced and that price is determined by the health and advertising
of a single company. Diamonds have a huge mark-up which will remove the resale
profit for many years. In the event of political instability, no one will be
using diamonds as a currency, nor will there be a lack of supply that drives up
demand. If you want to invest in a solid reality, stay with real-estate and
precious metals.
The true value in an engagement ring is
sentimental. Therefore the most valuable ring is the one that has the most thought,
love and care put into getting it onto the beloved’s finger. Sometimes that
care, is more in the way the ring is given than the ring itself.
