The Five Elements
Prthvi (earth)
Jala (water)
Agni (fire)
Vayu (air)
Akasha (ether)
In the Vedic sciences the understanding of the elements and their relationship to each other is very important. This square diagram is used to simplify the Vedic relationship between the five elements.
Across: Friendly- Vayu and Agni, and Jala, and Prthvi
Vertical: Neutral- Vayu and Jala, and Agni and Prthvi
Diagonal: Enemies- Jala and Agni, and Vayu and Prthvi
Akasha (ether) is all pervasive and friendly to all elements
The letters of the Sanskrit alphabet are divided into families (kula) according to the five elements. The chakra below presents this division of elemental family. It is used to check the first letters of a mantra relative to the first letters of the person's name.
